Massive 7.7M Earthquake strikes Burma(Myanmar)!

On March 28, 2025, a powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar (also known as Burma), causing significant damage and loss of life in both Myanmar and neighboring Thailand. The earthquake measured 7.7 in magnitude and occurred near the city of Sagaing in Myanmar.

In Myanmar, cities like Mandalay experienced severe destruction. Buildings collapsed, including parts of Mandalay University, trapping students and teachers. The government declared a state of emergency and appealed for international aid to assist with rescue and relief efforts.

The earthquake’s impact extended to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, located approximately 1,400 kilometers away from the epicenter. The tremors caused high-rise buildings to sway, leading to widespread panic as residents evacuated into the streets.  Notably, a 30-story building under construction in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district collapsed, resulting in three confirmed deaths and dozens of workers trapped or missing.  In response, Bangkok authorities declared the city a disaster area, with the governor coordinating emergency operations.

The earthquake also affected other regions, with tremors felt as far as China and India. Rescue operations are ongoing in both Myanmar and Thailand, with local and international agencies working to locate survivors and provide aid to those affected.

This event highlights the importance of earthquake preparedness and the need for stringent building codes, especially in areas prone to seismic activity. Both Myanmar and Thailand are now focusing on recovery efforts and assessing the full extent of the damage caused by this devastating earthquake.
